What is Grade 1045?

Grade 1045 is a medium carbon steel used for mechanical parts. This 1045 tube gets its additional strength from quenching and tempering. It still has good machinability when annealed. Because the carbon stays between 0.43-0.50%, the metal gets much harder during heat treatment. This makes it a great choice for parts that need to resist wear and stay strong.

Applications

The 1045 tubing serves 2 demanding mechanical applications requiring heat treatment:

Shafts and Spindles

Rotating machinery components including drive shafts, machine spindles, and motor shafts benefit from the high strength achievable through heat treatment of 1045 seamless tubing.

Gears

Non-carburised gear applications use 1045 carbon steel tubing for through-hardened gears where the entire cross-section requires uniform hardness and strength.
