What is Grade 1020?

Grade 1020 is a low carbon steel (0.18-0.23% C) with excellent weldability and formability. This 1020 tube is a general purpose grade suitable for non-critical mechanical applications requiring good machinability and moderate strength. The aisi 1020 tube offers better strength than 1018 while maintaining good forming characteristics. It can be case hardened for improved surface wear resistance when required.

Applications

The 1020 tube finds use across 3 key industries requiring moderate strength and good formability:

Construction Equipment

Structural frames and support members use it. We supply it for hydraulic cylinder parts and earthmoving gear. This 1020 steel tube has enough strength for these tasks. It is easy to weld when you need to fix things on site.

Industrial Equipment

Machine frames and conveyor parts are made from this. So are roller shafts and mechanical assemblies. High machinability is a huge plus. It helps when you have to do more work on the parts after they are made. This keeps the talk focused yet relaxed when discussing production timelines.

Automotive Applications

Drive shafts, axle tubes, steering components, and structural frame members. The 1020 carbon steel tube can be case hardened for improved wear resistance on bearing surfaces.
